King David's Tower

Today was a great day! I started out in class for one hour and then left to head to the old city. I bargained down a man from 170 to 30 NIS. Wow! I am getting so good at this.

Then I headed to King David's Tower/Museum. We watched a very weird and disturbing movie on the history of Jerusalem.

I don't really know why this place is important because we didn't get a tour of it. (I thought we would but oh well.)

I have heard that it is Herod's palace and where Jesus was tried before the Crucifixion.

But, I do know that it had great views of the city and was an excellent place to take pictures.

Entrance to the tower.

Spitting image wouldn't you say?

One of my favorite ways to pose.  Others have picked it up! In mocking? Perhaps.  Out of love? Of course!

Then I headed to the Jewish Quarter. It was in the middle of Succoth and so everything was closed. But, it was really cool to see the succoths.

Next up, lunch time. I miss American food and its variety. Oh well!

Then I wandered around for a little while and switched to another group and kept on going.

We went to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer which had a high bell tower with 177 steps! YA!

Trying to get a picture of the great view at the top of the tower.  I think it just turned out awkward and funny!

I found a nice little ledge to come out on!

Then we went to a few more churches which were awesome!

I came back and then I had my Arabic Class. In the last few days I have been called on more. Yesterday I was talking to Brielle for a lot of class and at one point I was laughing and my teacher said "Whitney, why are you talking so much today? Tell us, what are you laughing about?" Well I was laughing because we were supposed to roll our R's for one of the words we were learning and I can't roll my R's very well. So then he made me work on rolling my R's in front of everyone. I was laughing pretty hard which means I was silent and just shaking. He thought I was terrified of him. Funny funny.

Then today I was in class and he was teaching us how to say "When Hell freezes over" in Arabic and then he kept saying it to me. I asked him how I was supposed to react to that and he told me to make a surprised/shocked face. Later in the lesson he said it and I made the face to him again. He told me that he likes me and that I "am just so cute!" He then proceeded to make the class watch me make the face again.

Moral of the story: I am learning a lot here! :)

Are you liking Arabic? Even though you can't roll your R's?
