1st off we are going to have a Dictionary Lesson by Whitney! (Which means take this with a grain of salt because it is according to my understanding.)
The word is Tel.
It is pronounced just like the word Tell.
It occurs when a city has been built upon a flat land. Then the city gets destroyed or someone builds on top of them. This occurs over and over and in the end you have a nice hill or a tel.
I am not sure why Tel Aviv is a tel, but this lesson will come in handy down the road.
So, in honor of Miss Belle’s birthday I decided that I would get a group of about 60 people to go celebrate with me. We all decided to go swim in the Mediterranean on a Sunday. Gasp! Will the Sabbath not on a Sunday jokes ever get old? Thus, we headed to Tel Aviv.
We got to the beach and it had the most beautiful sand I have ever seen. It was pure white and soft as sand ;). But really, it was so beautiful. Then I timidly started to walk into the water because well the ocean is usually freezing. Not so! True, it wasn’t hot tub warm but it was the perfect temperature. It cooled you down but didn’t make you cold. The sand on the bottom of the water was still perfect. There were no rocks on the bottom and it was amazing. The salt content was pretty high which was only a problem when it went up one’s nose or when one accidentally swallowed some. But, the salt made it easy to float. You still had to work a bit at floating—but the work actually paid off, not like in a swimming pool. I mean, I actually floated! It was amazing.
Seriously, it was the most beautiful and delightful beach visit ever! I absolutely loved it!
Then we left the beach for a little bit to go see Old Jaffa. This place was founded by Noah’s son and is the oldest port in the world! Others felt like it was similar to a European town with the alleyways of stone and everything. Maybe because I have been too many a European towns I wasn’t as impressed. It seemed like a lot of walking to not see anything cool. But, it was still fun being with people.
After that I walked back to our beach spot by walking along the beach—splashing as I went. It was truly delightful for my aching feet. Of course when I got back I had to jump in the water again because I loved it so much. And then…I had to leave the amazing beach to get back on our van and come back to the center.
What an amazing day!
